Redskins: Josh Doctson could be a key part of Washington’s comeback
Washington Redskins quarterback Josh Doctons season could be on the line with an ankle injury, but coach Jay Gruden believes the young quarterback can still contribute.
“I don’t know if he’s going to play, but he’ll play,” Gruden said Wednesday.
“He’s a good player and I think he’ll be good for us in the long run.
I know he’s got a little bit of pain in his ankle and I know he has to come out and do it.”
Doctson did not participate in the first two practices of training camp but is expected to be back soon after.
If Doctson is sidelined, the Redskins will have to rely on Ryan Grant, a fourth-round pick out of UCLA, to get open.
Grant has thrown for more than 2,000 yards with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his first two seasons.
Washington is 1-3 on the season with a season-opening loss to Dallas on Sunday.
It also has not won a game since 2009.
