What’s next for Peyton Manning after he gets traded to the Colts?
Peyton Manning was expected to be the first-ballot MVP for the Super Bowl in January.
The Broncos quarterback is getting traded to Denver, the team announced Thursday.
The Associated Press first reported the trade.
Peyton Manning is expected to go to the Indianapolis Colts.
It’s a dramatic move, but not unprecedented.
During his career, several quarterbacks have been traded to teams like the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Donovan McNabb was traded to San Francisco for receiver Victor Cruz in 2007.
The New York Jets traded for quarterback Drew Brees in 2010.
And former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins was traded for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
The Denver Broncos are expected to have a quarterback they like in Manning.
General manager John Elway told reporters before the trade that the team was focused on winning and Manning’s value to the franchise was not the primary focus.
“We know that he’s going to have the ability to win, to be great,” Elway said.
“But also the value that he brings to the organization.”
Manning had a rough season last year, missing nine games due to injury and missing 16 games due a suspension.
He finished with a career-low 7,724 yards passing.
He completed just 46.4 percent of his passes.
Manning was traded at the end of the season to the Los Vegas Golden Knights for quarterback Kyle Orton.
Manning said he wasn’t expecting a deal to happen, and he didn’t expect to be traded to a team he doesn’t like.
“I didn’t think I was going to get traded to anybody,” Manning said.
He said the Broncos didn’t know what to expect when they signed Orton, who spent most of last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“They told me to stay out of the spotlight, keep it quiet,” Manning joked.
“You’ve got to be a little bit more honest with yourself, a little more cautious, a bit more humble.”
Manning said Orton helped him learn how to be better as a leader and person.
“He’s going there for a reason,” Manning told reporters.
He was the best of the best, but it wasn’t going to be an easy transition.” “
When he was coming in here, he was the most talented quarterback that they had.
He was the best of the best, but it wasn’t going to be an easy transition.”
Manning was the MVP last season, rushing for 2,732 yards and 16 touchdowns and completing 65.6 percent of the passes.
He had the second-most interceptions (18) of his career.
The Raiders have the franchise tag on Manning and are willing to match any offer.
Elway’s team is one of the most popular teams in the NFL, with the franchise tags on Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Reggie Wayne, along with former All-Pro quarterback and Super Bowl champion Joe Montana.
The franchise tag was set at $26 million and was set to increase by $2 million this offseason.
Elways team was also known for making big moves to improve the roster.
The Oakland Raiders signed former Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker to a five-year contract extension worth $65 million, while the St. Louis Rams signed veteran receiver Terrell Owens to a three-year deal worth $37 million.
